Marching orders

The Keller Central Band will hold a March-A-Thon from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 14 over a five-mile route through the neighborhoods around the school.

Band members are seeking sponsorships from businesses and individuals. For more information, email kchs.band@yahoo.com.

Teacher award

Timberview Middle School eighth grade science teacher Sheryl Schickedanz recently won the Botanical Research Institute of Texas BRIT) 2013 Wendy Owsly Garrett Science Teacher Award.

The annual honor recognizes innovative science teachers who have participated in BRIT education programs. Schickedanz received a $1,000 honorarium and an engraved plaque.

Board meeting

Keller trustees will hold the September board meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Rock Gym at the Education Center, 350 Keller Parkway.

Brown bag lunch

Superintendent Randy Reid will host his first Brown Bag Lunch of the year at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 26 at Willis Lane Elementary in the school library. The monthly events usually start at noon. Parents and community members can bring their own bag lunches and participate in an informal Q&A session with Reid.

Dance clinic

The Keller High School Indianettes will host a Pee Wee Dance Clinic from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 21 at Keller High School, 601 N. Pate Orr Rd. Participants are invited to perform a routine prior to the Sept. 27 Keller football game against Northwest. The cost of the clinic is $30 and includes a t-shirt and a snack. Sugar-Sweet Show

Audiences are in for a sweet treat when they come to the Northwest school district’s sixth annual middle school musical.

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, Jr., the junior version of the Broadway show, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, at Vernon Solomon Performing Arts Center, 2301 Texan Drive, Justin.

The musical follows a boy named Charlie and his visit to a surreal chocolate factory run by Willy Wonka. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults. Call 817-215-0268 to reserve tickets.

School Board meeting twice in September

The Northwest school board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m.Sept. 23 at the Northwest school district’s Administration Building, 2001 Texan Drive, Fort Worth.

Religious rally

Northwest ISD Partners in Education has faith that it can help students in the school district succeed in an increasingly global economy by giving them the resources they need to excel.

Now, Partners in Education wants to share with faith-based organizations strategies for helping ensure this student success.

The Faith-Based Rally is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 19 at the Northwest school district’s Administration Building, 2001 Texan Drive, Fort Worth. Call 817- 215-0175 to reserve a spot at the space-limited event.

Golden opportunity

The Northwest school district wants to card residents of a certain age: Individuals 65 or older. T

he district’s Gold Card program for senior citizens provides participants with an annual free luncheon and free entry into district-sponsored events, performances and sports.
