Financial Peace offered at First Methodist

First Methodist Mansfield will offer Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University beginning Sept. 15. The church is offering classes on several evenings. Special classes will be offered for singles, parents of special needs children and small business owners, in addition to married couples.

Church plans 37th annual Fall Festival

St. Jude’s 37th annual Fall Festival will be held from 2-10 p.m. Oct. 5. The festival will be held at 500 E. Dallas St. with free parking and admission. Everyone is welcome.

Entertainment will include DJ Travis Stewart from 2-6 p.m., followed by Spanish dancers Ballet Folklorico at 6 p.m. Foritos Kumbia, in their seventh annual appearance at the festival, will entertain the crowd with great Spanish music and dancing from 7-10 p.m.

There will be fun for the entire family, with plenty of craft vendors and great ethnic food, including gorditas, flautas, burgers, turkey legs, french fries, tacos and more. There will be great rides for the kids and adults, including a mechanical bull ride, and plenty of games for all the kids with great prizes. Buy a raffle ticket for a chance at $3,000 and many other prizes in the raffle.

Always a crowd pleaser is the homemade cake walk in the church center from 2 p.m. until we sell out. Special added attraction this year will be a live petting zoo.

Auditions planned for Mansfield Christmas Spectacular

Adults and children can audition for the 2013 Mansfield Christmas Spectacular from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 15 at First Methodist Mansfield in room A&E130 in the A&E Building.

This year’s shows will be at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts. A pianist will be available for vocal auditions, but CDs or acappella are acceptable. Contact Scott Ferrell at scottf@fmcm.org for more information.

Children’s choir welcomes singers

Jubilate Children’s Community Choir is in its second year of singing, performing and making new friends. It is open to all students in the third through sixth grade in Mansfield and the surrounding communities. The choir will rehearse from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Sept. 3 in room 130 of the Arts and Education building at First United Methodist Church Mansfield, 777 N. Walnut Creek Drive. Invite all your friends who may be interested.

We will be performing at several local events this fall including the Mansfield Christmas Spectacular at the MISD Center for the Performing Arts.

Gail Baker and Tiffany Jordan, Mansfield music educators, are the directors and look forward to seeing you there!

Preschool has openings

Little Hearts School, located at 1500 Breckenridge, is entering its 14th year of serving the community with a two-day preschool program.

Established in August 2000, Little Hearts’ students have fun learning and making friends as they grow spiritually, socially and academically. They currently have limited availability for ages 18 months-prekindergarten.

Church offers Financial Peace University

More than 2 million families have positively changed their financial future through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Updated in summer 2012, the now nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success. The course meets once a week where a different lesson is taught by Dave on DVD followed by a small-group discussion. Lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing.

Mansfield Bible offers infertility support

Bilingual services held at Bible church

Mansfield Bible Church provides a ministry for Hispanics who want to address their bilingual family needs. Adults can choose complete programs either in English or Spanish. Ministries in Spanish include an 11 a.m. Sunday worship service, weekly Life Groups in homes, discipleship studies, family fellowships and community service projects.

St. Jude plans monthly Bingo

St. Jude Catholic Church will now offer Bingo every month instead of every other month. Bingo packets are $25 to play 14 games. Cover all guarantee payout is $300.

The hall opens at 6 p.m. with first call at 6:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Upcoming dates for Bingo are Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at the St. Jude Parish Hall on the corner of Graves and Dallas streets.

Community of Hope slates golf tourney

Community of Hope’s annual golf tournament will take place Oct. 5 at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. The golfers will have an opportunity to participate in the $1 million Hole-in-One Shootout. The format is a four-person scramble with an entry fee of $85 per person, or $340 per foursome.

Entry includes 18 holes of golf with cart, 2 mulligans, swag bag, silent auction and dinner/awards in the club house. All proceeds benefit Community of Hope’s Student Ministry Program.
