Trite phrase

An Aug. 29 story (“Fort Hood shooter sentenced to death”) quoted a man shot four times by Maj. Nidal Hasan as saying he was “expected to either die or remain in a vegetative state.”

The father of a 21-year-old pregnant private who was killed said Hasan “also killed me slowly.” An editorial that day used the trite suggestion that the victims “get on with their lives.”

I have been a trauma therapist for more than 30 years and respectfully request an end to that phrase. Every victim who enters my office is “getting on with their lives” as best they can.
