The writer of an Aug. 22 letter (“Davis disaster”) called state Sen. Wendy Davis “a single-issue” candidate.

He must have missed her filibuster against the Legislature cutting $5 billion from our public schools.

Her more recent fight was in support of Texas women’s access to healthcare. Wendy’s opponents will certainly try to make abortion the only issue because it’s a hair-on-fire, anti-female favorite.

Or they will simply make bubba jokes like the “retard Barbie” remark to which Attorney General Greg Abbott replied with thanks.

Many issues in Texas need vigorous and intelligent discussion. Our current leadership hides behind partisan ideology to misdirect public attention from the state’s shortcomings, but Davis has the courage, smarts and dedication to address these issues head on.

Indeed, it’s Wendy’s critics who are single-minded. All they know is how to say “No.”
