BEDFORD — Hurst L.D. Bell quarterback Colson Romano passed for 370 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Blue Raiders to a 49-37 victory against Midland in a nondistrict game Friday night at Pennington Field.
Romano and his receivers helped the Blue Raiders (2-0) stave off a second-half rally by the Bulldogs (1-1). Midland running back Lance White scored on a 4-yard run early in the third quarter to forge a 28-28 tie.
Bell responded quickly with a 35-yard scoring pass from Romano to Jonathan Croasdaile for a 35-28 lead, and the Raiders led 35-30 entering the fourth quarter.
Two quick scores to open the fourth quarter extended Bell’s lead to 49-30. Daniel Dorsett (71 yards rushing and two touchdowns) reached the end zone with a 30-yard run on fourth-and-1. And on the next possession, Jonathan Arosemena caught a 4-yard pass from Romano.
But the Bulldogs fought back. Quarterback Preston Howey threw a 47-yard strike to DeAndre Goodley to close to within 12 points with just over three minutes remaining.
Midland was called offside on an onside kick try, and Romano and the Bell offense maintained possession the rest of the way.
