After allowing a touchdown on its opening defensive series, Class 5A Division I state champion Allen (2-0) handled Cedar Hill (1-1) in a 39-20 nondistrict victory at Eagle Stadium on Friday.

Allen’s defense, which features four FBS commitments, did not allow a Cedar Hill first down in the second quarter as the Eagles scored 23 straight points to put plenty of distance between themselves and the 2012 5A Division II state runner-up.

“We knew Cedar Hill was a good team with a lot of speed, and even though we gave up a score, we knew we just had to do what our coaches teach us and we’d get stops,” said Allen linebacker Christian Sam.

Allen junior quarterback Kyler Murray finished with 227 total yards and a touchdown rushing and receiving.

On special teams, Mayomi Olootu blocked a pair of Cedar Hill punts in the second quarter to set up 10 Allen points, which helped the Eagles jump out to a 23-7 lead at halftime.

Allen struck quickly to open the scoring on a 26-yard run by Murray, but Cedar Hill had a quick answer as wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge caught the first of his three touchdown receptions from Justin McMillan.
