HALTOM CITY — It was a showcase of triple-option football.
Haltom never completed a pass but compiled 428 yards of offense with nine different backfield runners and cruised past Burleson 35-7 at Birdville Stadium to open the season 2-0.
Burleson (0-2) will look for its first win when it meets Weatherford for homecoming next week.
Four Haltom backs scored touchdowns, but it was running back Dandre Reed who set the tone with first-half touchdowns on offense and defense to spot Haltom a 14-0 lead. The offense responded with touchdowns on its first three drives of the second half.
Burleson was able to erase the shutout when quarterback Isaiah Hall connected with Austin Murrell on a 11-yard TD pass with 3:23 remaining.
Reed gave Haltom the eventual game-winning score when he stepped in front of a pass by Hall and returned 81 yards for a touchdown with time expired in the first half.
