JOSHUA — Azle scored two touchdowns in its first six plays from scrimmage and never allowed Joshua into the game, coasting to a 45-14 victory Friday at Owl Stadium.
Azle (2-0) has both wins this season on the road.
Quarterback Jamie King found Tyler Albers for a 31-yard touchdown pass less than 90 seconds into the game. After the Hornets recovered a muffed return on the subsequent kickoff, King finished a 25-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.
Dylan Tritton’s 20-yard field goal gave Azle a 17-point cushion with under four minutes left in the opening quarter. The Hornets’ offense contributed two more first-half scores, including a 68-yard King-to-Albers connection with 2:48 to go in the half. With the defense shutting out the Owls until the fourth quarter, Azle’s 31 first-half points would prove more than enough.
King led the Hornets with 198 yards passing and another 75 on the ground.
Joshua (0-2) got a 1-yard touchdown run from Peyton Williams and a 29-yard Garrett Hoffman pass to Jordan Biggs for its only scores on the night.
