IRVING — Arlington Lamar wore down Irving Nimitz in a nondistrict game Friday behind the running of Jamal Kemp and Ali Lancaster, winning 20-3 at Irving Schools Stadium.
Quarterback Shane Buechele added to the ground game for Lamar (1-1) while also hurting Nimitz (1-1) with his arm. Buechele completed 13 of 17 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 70 yards on 14 carries.
Lamar didn’t punt in the second half, running twice as many plays as Nimitz (31-15). Lamar dominated time of possession. Kemp carried the ball 18 times for 74 yards in the game, while Lancaster made all of his yardage, 11 rushes for 46 yards, in the second half.
Lamar used two big plays — one on offense and one on defense — to pull away midway through the third quarter.
Defensive back McClinton Marquise’s interception and return set up the Vikings with good field position. After a holding penalty, Buechele hit a wide-open Jaries King streaking down the left sideline for a 46-yard touchdown.
