A man arrested Saturday on accusations that he fatally shot a man in the parking lot of the La Gran Plaza mall in south Fort Worth has been identified as 71-year-old Cresencio Serrano.

Homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson said investigators are still trying to determine what prompted Serrano to shoot the victim.

Police were dispatched at 2:48 p.m. Saturday to a report of an unconscious man in the parking lot of the mall at 4200 South Freeway, off Seminary Drive.

The victim was found on the sidewalk near the entrance to a store, according to a police report. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The victim’s identity had still not been released as of Tuesday. Investigators believe he was a homeless man, Johnson said.

Serrano was arrested at the mall a short time later.

He remained in the Mansfield jail Tuesday with bail set at $75,000.
