The uncle and nephew who drowned Sunday night in Lake Worth were identified Monday as Juan Zacarias, 24, and Javier Zacarias, 16, both of Fort Worth.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner put the time of their deaths at 8:24 p.m. The cause and manner of death was not been reported by late Monday.

The bodies were recovered by Fort Worth Fire Department divers near where they went under water about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 7400 block of Cohoba Drive just north of Naval Air Station Fort Worth.

Witnesses said the men were wading with another person when Javier Zacarias slipped off a ledge into about 12 feet of water, said Lt. Carol Jones, a fire department spokeswoman. The teen panicked, and his uncle went after him.

Neither knew how to swim, and neither was wearing a life jacket, Jones said. The third person, who wasn’t named, was uninjured.
