High school volleyball

The Arlington volleyball team was the district’s top squad in the 44th Arlington Invitational volleyball tournament, which saw powerhouse Southlake Carroll taking the top spot.

The Lady Colts finished tied for fifth place and were just two wins from playing for the championship in the top gold bracket.

Martin also competed in the gold bracket, defeating ninth-place Plano but falling to to Lake Travis three victories from the title match.

Lamar competed in the silver bracket but lost its first game to eventual bracket champion Waxahachie.

Grace Prep defeated North Crowley in its first game in bronze bracket play before falling to Rowlett. Georgetown would emerge as the bracket champion.

Seguin was defeated by its first opponent, Justin Northwest, in the consolation bracket, which would be won by Sachse.

Arlington outside hitter Lauren Nicks and Martin outside hitter Alexis Wright were named to the all-tournament team.

Arlington teams are set to begin district competition Sept. 13.

City fall leagues

Registration is underway for fall T-ball, coach-pitch baseball and outdoor soccer youth leagues.

The fee for each is $75, with registration running until Wednesday. Play in each league begins Sept. 28.

Registration for basketball, cheer and indoor soccer leagues will be held in October and November.
