1st quarter

Brandon Carter was stripped of the ball on TCU’s first kickoff return and LSU recovered and took over on the TCU 10. The Horned Frogs’ defense held the Tigers to another field goal and trailed 6-0.

2nd quarter

After LSU took a 13-3 lead with a touchdown run, TCU’s B.J. Catalon returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score to swing the momentum back to the Frogs, who pulled to within 13-10 with 13:26 left in the half.

3rd quarter

A TCU holding penalty extended LSU’s first drive, leading to Terrence Magee’s 52-yard touchdown run. Trevone Boykin took over at QB for TCU after Casey Pachall threw an interception on the Frogs’ first possession of the half. He led TCU on a 77-yard scoring drive, capped by B.J. Catalon’s 26-yard TD run. LSU responded with a 14-play, 68-yard TD drive to make it 30-17.

4th quarter

TCU scored 10 unanswered points to pull within 30-27 on Jaden Oberkrom’s 39-yard field goal. But LSU responded with a 75-yard kickoff return and scored three plays later.

How they fared

Offense: Seven of 10 drives were shorter than 34 yards as the Frogs were held to 114 yards on the ground. QB Casey Pachall was 9 of 16 for 75 yards and an interception.

Defense: LSU gained 448 yards and controlled the ball for 35 minutes, 51 seconds, as the Frogs gave up several big plays.

Special teams: B.J. Catalon returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, but Brandon Carter’s fumble on a kickoff return led to an LSU field-goal. After pulling within 30-27 midway through the fourth quarter, the Frogs allowed a 75-yard kickoff return. LSU scored three plays later.

Players of the game

B.J. Catalon, TCU: The junior running back scored on a 100-yard kickoff return and 26-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 233 all-purpose yards.

Odell Beckham, LSU: The junior wide receiver’s fourth-quarter 75-yard kickoff set up a late TD, which gave LSU a 10-point lead. He had five receptions for 118 yards and finished with 272 all-purpose yards.
