JUSTIN — Jesse Drummer, the new starting quarterback for Justin Northwest, led the Texans past Grand Prairie 49-23 on Friday at Northwest ISD Stadium.
The Texans drove 64 yards on their second possession and scored on a 3-yard run by Dennis Adrole.
Grand Prairie (0-1) answered with a 38-yard field goal from Juan Correa, but Drummer tacked on another touchdown before the end of the first quarter on a 3-yard keeper to make it 14-3 Northwest.
Drummer passed for 101 yards in the first quarter, and he was just getting started.
The junior quarterback connected with Chase Morrison on a 40-yard pass to the Gophers’ 5-yard line with under 7 minutes to play in the half, and Adrole ran in his second touchdown of the night.
Northwest got the ball back, and Drummer connected with Morrison on a 32-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-3 Texans.
Grand Prairie scored just before the break on a 21-yard pass from Jaylen Fails to Trey Mason.
The Texans picked up where they left off in the third quarter, as Morrison and Drummer paired up again on a 37-yard touchdown pass.
The Northwest defense stepped it up in the second half as well, as two third-quarter interceptions by Reggie McDaniel and Duke Kicinski gave Northwest good field position.
The Texans then capitalized with a 13-yard run from Morrison and 8-yard run from Emmanuel Moore.
