ENNIS — Ennis quarterback Devin Smith guided a balanced attack as the Lions defeated Burleson Centennial 43-14 on Friday night at Lion Memorial Stadium.
Smith threw for 158 yards and the running game added another 229 yards.
Centennial running back DeMarcus Williams opened his senior season with a big game. Williams carried 34 times for 182 yards. The Spartans finished with 320 yards of offense.
Ennis jumped out to a 21-0 lead behind the play of Smith, who threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.
With 45 seconds left in the first half, Centennial quarterback Brady Allen found tight end Curtis Amos in the corner of the end zone for a 22-yard score.
Ennis opened the second half with a nine-play, 75-yard drive that put the Lions up 29-7. The Lions padded their lead with a 3-yard run by Nick Gabriel on their next possession to go up 36-7.
Centennial’s Austin Mortensen scored on a 1-yard run, and Ennis countered with a 1-yard run by Elliott to cap the scoring.
