For the second year in a row, New York Giants running back Andre Brown has suffered a broken left leg.

Brown, who has 75 career carries for 384 yards and eight touchdowns, was expected to be used in a one-two punch with starter David Wilson. But Brown limped off the field just before halftime of Thursday night’s 28-20 preseason loss to the New England Patriots.

Brown broke the same leg in late November last season against the Packers.

The Giants also lost backup safety Tyler Sash to a concussion and tight end Adrien Robinson had a left foot injury.

New York opens the regular season Sept. 8 at AT&T Stadium against the Dallas Cowboys.

Briefly

• Eagles: Tight end James Casey left the preseason finale against the Jets with a hamstring injury. The Azle graduate signed a three-year, $12 million contract in March after spending his first four seasons in Houston.

• Jets: Quarterback Mark Sanchez is unlikely to play in the season opener Sept. 8 against the Buccaneers because of a deep right shoulder bruise. That would leave rookie Geno Smith the likely starter.

• Buccaneers: Tight end Tom Crabtree was carted off the field with a right ankle injury against the Redskins. Crabtree signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract after leaving the Packers where he had 18 catches in three seasons, including four touchdowns.

Exhibitions

• Lions 35, Bills 13: Playing with just three days practice, Matt Leinart was 3 of 10 passing for 11 yards in five possessions as Buffalo played without its top two quarterbacks. Detroit led 35-3 at the half.

• Bengals 27, Colts 10: Former TCU quarterback Andy Dalton led the Bengals to a touchdown in his only drive, and Josh Johnson threw for another in his bid to win the backup job as Cincinnati ended a 3-1 preseason with a win over Indianapolis.

• Jets 27, Eagles 20: Matt Simms, competing for the Jets’ No. 3 quarterback job, led four scoring drives and was 33 of 44 for 285 yards while Kahlil Bell had two touchdown runs as New York beat Philadelphia in the teams’ preseason finale. Nick Foles was 6 of 17 for 63 yards in two quarters for the Eagles before being replaced by Matt Barkley.

• Redskins 30, Buccaneers 12: Pat White set up one touchdown with a 66-yard completion and ran 7 for another TD as Washington finished off an unbeaten preseason for the first time in 28 years.
