The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team begins a new era in the Sooner Athletic Conference, having moved from the Red River Athletic Conference.“What we do know about our conference is that top to bottom, it is very competitive,” first-year coach Kimberly Weaver said. “We have to be prepared for each match.”TWU was selected to finish sixth in the preseason coaches’ poll. Oklahoma Baptist was tabbed as the favorite.Senior Katherine Rosenbusch earned the school’s first honors in the conference when she was selected as the SAC player of the week. Rosenbusch, from Hutto High School, averaged 3.67 kills per set and had a .500 attacking percentage at the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament.“I think that we have set the bar high for what we are expecting,” Weaver said. “We have a great core from our seniors and juniors and a lot of contributors. It is a confidence boost for all of the hard work that they have put in.”Wesleyan (3-1) is at the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament this weekend. They will then play Grambling State at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and will close out the tournament against former Western Athletic Conference foe Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. New chapter for UNTNorth Texas opens its inaugural season as a member of Conference USA at the Loyola Marymount Invitational in Los Angeles.The Mean Green, who are picked to finish fourth in the preseason C-USA poll, will play host Loyola Marymount at 9 p.m. Friday. They will then play twice Saturday, against No. 12 UCLA at noon and against Albany at 6:30 p.m.
