A group of robbers — one carrying a cane or crutch — assaulted a Wise County homeowner late Monday, then left him bound in his front yard while stealing his firearms and an undetermined amount of cash, authorities said.

Deputies emailed alerts to residents of Wise County and other North Texas areas Tuesday, telling them to watch for people trying to sell firearms at cheap prices.

Wise County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the robbery about 11 p.m. at a home on Farm Road 920 between the Boonsville and Balsora communities.

The 73-year-old homeowner told deputies that between 10 and 11 p.m., a man came to his door and asked for assistance. At some point, that man, along with accomplices, assaulted the resident, bound his hands and placed him in his front yard.

The robbers entered the man’s home, stealing the firearms and cash.

After they left, the homeowner freed his hands and called 911.

The homeowner described one robber as a heavyset white man in his 30s with short dark hair and a mustache. He was carrying a cane or crutch, deputies said.

Anyone with information should call the Wise County Sheriff’s Department at 940-627-5971, ext. 236, or Crime Stoppers at 800-643-8477 or 940-627-8477.
