Worker killed in construction accident at Fort Worth campus

A worker who suffered critical injuries when a chimney fell on him at a construciton site on the Texas Christian University campus during the weekend died early Sunday, officials said Monday.

The victim was identified as Sebastian Sanchez, 30, of Fort Worth. He was pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m. Sunday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.

He suffered injuries to his chest and abdomen and his death was ruled an accident, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the site at 3014 Lubbock Ave.

Sanchez was part of a crew that apparently was demolishing a house on campus property, officials said.

TCU officials acknowledged the accident Monday evening and issued a statement saying: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Zamora Construction and the family members of the Zamora employee fatally injured on Saturday. Zamora Construction was hired to perform the demolition of several buildings on campus to prepare for a new parking lot.”
