AUSTIN — The University Interscholastic League will honor Southlake Carroll High School on Friday for its 2013 Class 5A UIL Lone Star Cup victory. The Lone Star Cup trophy presentation will take place prior to Southlake Carroll’s football game against Allen High School at Dragon Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic and athletic programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”
With state championships in boys and girls cross country and swimming and diving, a state runner-up in girls soccer, and a third-place finish at state in boys golf, Southlake Carroll earned 122 total Lone Star Cup points for the 2012-13 school year. The Dragons also earned points in UIL academics, volleyball, football, boys and girls basketball, boys soccer, softball, baseball. This is the fourth UIL Lone Star Cup victory for Southlake Carroll High School.
The UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to five high schools, one in each of the five UIL classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A), based on their team performance in district and state championships. The winning schools in each classification receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship, also presented by the UIL. UIL Assistant Athletic Director Traci Neely will be on hand to make the presentation.
The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
