The Southlake Newcomers Club is starting off a new social season with a new board and a new meeting location.

Now that all the kiddos are heading back to school, it is time to get back involved in organizations that make our community the amazing place that it is.

The Southlake Newcomers Club, a non-profit organization that raises money for local charitable organizations as well as its own foundation, is kicking off this year with an open house and everyone is invited.

Held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in the clubhouse at Watermere at Southlake, located at 251 Watermere Drive, this is a great opportunity to get to know this fun organization and its members.

I also have heard that the club will hold its monthly meetings every third Tuesday at this same location with brunch served at 9:30 a.m. and a featured presenter or speaker at 10 a.m.

If you are new to the area or are looking for a great group to get involved with, be sure to check this event out! More information on this organization can be found at

Speaking of something amazing, Metroport Meals on Wheels has been chosen as the beneficiary of the Texas Wine Tribute, one of the aspects of this year’s 27th annual GrapeFest held in Grapevine.

The Texas Wine Tribute is a black-tie gala where specially selected Texas wines are paired with an outstanding dinner.

The Texas Wine Tribute reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7 with dinner at 7 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Grand Hall, 636 S. Main St. Tickets are $125 per person.

Additionally, this year the GrapeFest Texas Wine Tribute will award the first “Tall in Texas” Award.

This new annual award will be presented to a winery that has been instrumental in promoting Texas wines and the Texas wine industry. Who is this year’s recipient? Drum roll please — the Messina Hof Winery from Bryan!

Congratulations to you Metroport Meals on Wheels and to you Messina Hof Winery. What an honor for you both!

GrapeFest slated for Sept. 12-15

GrapeFest will take place Sept. 12-15 in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
