Dove Sprayground was closed for two days due to electrical damage from storms on Aug. 9, city officials said.

“We had to replace a small breaker,” Parks & Recreation Director Greg Evans said. “At first we thought it was more serious. I’m glad it was a minor thing.”

Dove Pool and Dove Park were not affected, city officials said. The park that opened in 1972 and its pool and other amenities were given an estimated $4 million facelift this year.

“With all of the improvements, it is one of our signature parks in Grapevine,” Evans said.

A highlight of the redo was Dove Pool, and promoters chose a new name to go along with its new image: Dove Waterpark. Dove Waterpark made its debut May 25-27, drawing about 1,700 people, 697 of them on Memorial Day.

The new waterpark’s features include an expanded swimming pool, multiple slides, a deep-water climbing wall, covered rental cabanas, a larger covered children’s pool and a playground with zero depth entry and geysers. It also includes a complete redo of the universally accessible Casey’s Clubhouse — scheduled to open on Sept. 7 — and new state-of-the art sports lighting.

The waterpark closes for the season after Labor Day. Hours vary. The adjoining sprayground will run through Sept. 30. The park is open daily all year long.
