Keller trustees have decided to leave Place 5 vacant until it comes up for election in May 2014 — not because of a lack of qualified applicants but due to an abundance of them.Last month, Lara Lee Hogg announced she was stepping down because of a move out of the district. Board members asked residents interested in filling the vacancy to send letters and, if they wished, resumes. Trustees received letters from 31 people.Board President Jim Stitt said that trustees had hoped that one candidate would be “rise to the top,” but a number of applicants were well-qualified. Rather than try to make an appointment amidst the crowded field, trustees opted to leave the seat open and let voters decide in May.The board will invite the 31 applicants to consider participation in Community Ambassadors, a semester-long program that gives residents an up-close look at how the district operates and how decisions are made.
