ESPN founder, CNN anchor, Pulitzer winner headline speaker series at UTA

Five distinguished speakers who range from a noted neurosurgeon to a CNN anchor are scheduled as particpants in the University of Texas at Arlington’s 2013-14 speaker series.

The Mavericks Speakers Series opens Sept. 24 at Texas Hall with a lecture by immigration rights activist and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Vargas. The event is free and open to the public.

The series will also feature ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen on Oct. 24, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper on Nov. 11, neurosurgeon and CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta on March 18 and National Public Radio legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg on April 8.

All lectures begin at 7:30 p.m. either at College Park Center, 601 Spaniolo Drive (formerly South Pecan Street) or Texas Hall at 701 W. Nedderman Drive.
