Arlington resident Kate Tran, 14, sank a 20-foot putt to win a $10,000 college scholarship at the RGC Wealth Management Shot for College competition Aug. 4.

The event was attended by more than 150 young golfers. They received insight from PGA professional Jordan Spieth, who last month captured a dramatic win in the John Deere Classic and is ranked 59th in the world.

Martin basketball college signing

Shawn Hammler, who recently graduated from Martin High School, recently signed a basketball scholarship with Richland College in Dallas.

Hammler was on the Warriors for his last three years, serving as captain in the 2012-13 season and helping the team to a second-place showing at regionals.

Seguin softball college signing

Recent Seguin graduate Miranda Borchers signed her softball scholarship with Vernon College in Vernon after a standout senior season at catcher.

Borchers was a first-team all-district selection and honored as Most Valuable Player last season while maintaining honor roll status.

She plans to study business management at Vernon.

City fall leagues

Registration is underway for fall T-ball, coach-pitch baseball and outdoor soccer youth leagues.

The fee for each is $75, with registration running until Sept. 4. Play in each league begains Sept. 28.

Registration for basketball, cheer and indoor soccer leagues will be held in October and November.
