A former Mansfield school district official is the focus of a theft investigation, a district spokesman said.

A district finance officer from April 30, 2012, until March 19, left the district for personal reasons, according to his letter of resignation.

District police began investigating a week later and found evidence of “unauthorized expenditures” by the finance officer totaling less than $2,000, district spokesman Richie Escovedo said Aug. 8.

According to the Allen American newspaper, the former Mansfield finance officer is also under investigation by Allen police. He was director of finance and operations for the Allen district from January 2001 until taking the job in Mansfield, according to his resume.

The finance officer’s annual salary was $132,090, according to Mansfield school district records.

He could not be reached to comment.
