Cats shut out Whitewings on 3-hitter, close in on league title

Cameron Monger hit a solo home run in the third and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly the eighth, and four Fort Worth pitchers combined for a three-hitter in the Cats’ 5-0 victory Tuesday over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at LaGrave Field.

David Bergin also homered in the fifth for the Cats, who have won six of the past seven games and lead the United League Baseball standings by eight games with eight to play.

Cats starter James Giulietti (4-3) gave up three hits and struck out nine in six innings. Jeff Sakowski, Matt Eshleman and Trevor Longfellow did not give up a hit in relief.
