TCU defense dealt a blow as returning starting LB Joel Hasley leaves program

TCU linebacker Joel Hasley, who started 10 games as a walkon in 2012, has left the team, the school announced Monday.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said Hasley “decided it was time to move on from football.” Hasley

“I'd like to thank Joel for everything he's done for TCU and his commitment to our program,” Patterson said in a release. “We will miss him and wish him the best.”

Hasley, a junior, has already earned a communications degree and is close to finishing a geology degree. He attended Aledo High School. Hasley is the second returning starter to leave the team since TCU reported for August camp last week. Offensive tackle Tayo Fabuluje left the program for "personal reasons," TCU announced Thursday.

The linebacker position was the only area of concern for the TCU defense, which was returning nine starters to a unit that led the Big 12 last year. Now that number is eight. Contenders to take over Hasley’s top spot on the depth chart are Jonathan Anderson, who moved from safety in the spring, and Paul Dawson. Anderson and Dawson are both juniors and have four starts combined.
