Cats strike early, blank Rio Grande Valley for fifth straight victory

The Fort Worth Cats scored four runs in the first inning, and the pitching staff tossed its second consecutive shutout to beat Rio Grande Valley 5-0 on Sunday night at LaGrave Field.

Outfielder Chris Ellison led the Cats’ offensive attack going 2 for 4 with an run-scoring single in the first inning.

Starter Cole Stephens had another solid outing for the Cats, giving up only three hits over six innings with three strikeouts. It was Stephens’ third win in his last four starts.

With the victory, the Cats stand 17 games over .500 and maintain their eight-game lead over San Angelo for first place in United League Baseball.
