Coach: Dale Keeling
Last season: 5-6 (4-3 in District 8-4A), lost to Fort Worth Southwest 7-0 in Division II bi-district
Key players: QB Reggie Kincade (5-10, 180); RB Kierre Crossley (5-9, 165); DE Zac Fusilier (5-9, 200); LB Darrell Parks (6-0, 190); DE Darien Davis (5-11, 180); OT Eric Booker (6-1, 270); C Rowdy Witt (6-2, 275).
The big picture: Coach Dale Keeling has steered Everman to the playoffs 14 consecutive seasons, won back-to-back state titles in 2001-02, and has led the Bulldogs to many deep postseason runs. But Everman is just 11-10 with a pair of first-round exits over the past two seasons. Don’t expect the Bulldogs, who return 12 starters, six on each side of the ball, to struggle for a third consecutive year. A new cycle of talent, which includes “very fast” running back Kierre Crossley, offensive tackle Eric Booker and defensive end Darien Davis, will bolster a small but solid group of lettermen. Reggie Kincade moves behind center after rushing for a team-high 981 yards and 14 scores last season at running back. Big things are also expected of Zac Fusilier, who is moving to defensive end after starting the past two seasons on the offensive line. Leading tackler Darrell Parks returns at linebacker after tallying 79 stops and three sacks in 2012.
Quotable: “This has been the best off-season we’ve had in years. The kids are working hard, they are strong and ready to go.” — Coach Dale Keeling
“When you win as much as we’ve won and you’ve had the kind of players that we’ve had — you know this is still high school football — you just don’t always have those kids. It comes in spurts. It’s a cycle of kids. Sometimes you get a cycle of some real good ones, and right now we have a cycle of some pretty good ones. We have a real good group of sophomores and our junior class is a big class that I think is going to be pretty good.” — Keeling
Notable: Keeling is two wins shy of his 200th career victory with an overall record of 198-121-2, and is 153-48 in 15 seasons at Everman.
