Detectives in Arlington are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy who was unresponsive and had “suspicious bruising” when police were called to a motel early Friday.

Authorities were called at about 12:30 a.m. to the motel in the 1200 block of West Division Street where the boy had been taken to the front office, according to Tiara Richard, Arlington police spokeswoman.

The child was taken by ambulance to Arlington Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the child as Landon Fernandez.

“Detectives are investigating to determine if foul play was a factor in this child's death. He had suspicious bruising, which is one element being evaluated in the ongoing investigation,” Richard said in an e-mail to the Star-Telegram.
