Piano students present spring recital

Piano students of Harriet A. Motter and their families and friends presented a Springs Awards Recital. The program featured selections from classic piano literature composers and contemporary composers Dennis Alexander and Lynn F. Olson. After the recital, awards for the year were presented. An International Piano guild certificate and pin was received by Emma Tung (15 pieces) and Kyra Ullman (20 pieces). Kyra’s program included Sonata K545 by Mozart, as well as her own original composition “Starry Rain” – the fourth-grade first-place winner in the Texas Music Teachers State original composition competition. Kyra will perform this at the June Texas Music Teachers Convention.

National 10 piece Guild program certificates were presented to Carrigan Hudgins, William Meshack III and Brennan Trussell. Piano Guild duet certificates were presented to Kyra Ullman and William Meshack. They played “Sparklers” by Joyce Grill, a Fort Worth Ensemble selection preceding their performance at an honors recital at Steinway Hall Piano store in Fort Worth and the Texas State Music Teacher’s Convention on June 15.

Karen Shugart was awarded a Hobbyist Piano Guild certificate and presented her six beginning piano students. They were Marie and Juliet Hodges, Jace Williams, Lauryn Marshall , Benjamin and Evan Shugart.

Student Affiliate theory medals were earned by Brennan Trussell, Emma Tung and Carrigan Hudgins (Silver) and Kyra Ullman (Gold). Texas State World of Music medals and Outstanding Musicianship Trophy Awards from the Arlington Music Teachers Association were earned by Brennan Trussell, Emma Tung, William Meshack, Carrigan Hudgins and Kyra Ullman. Critics Circle Ratings from the National Piano Guild was earned by Kyra Ullman.

After the presentation of awards a reception was held honoring the students.

Special guests were parents, grandparents and extended family members. Assisting as recital hosts were Lisa and Steve Hudgins and Beverly and Gary Blodgett.
