Optimist baseball

Representing the Arlington Optimist Club, the Optimist All Stars baseball team of players ages 9 and 10 represented the PONY South Zone, West Region in the Zone Tournament in Burleson last week.

Last Thursday, the Optimist team beat a club from Harlingen 4-3, and came from behind on its final out to defeat a Pompano Beach, Fla., squad 10-7.

The stellar season came to an end against a team from Crowley, La., with a 10-5 loss on Saturday. The All Stars finished up 22-1.

The All Stars won the Super Regional Tournament in Decatur to make it to the Zone Tournament, winning five tournaments along the way.

The Zone Tournament was the last step before reaching the PONY Mustang World Series.

Team members included Andrew Alvarado, Edwin Alvarado, Ernest Cooper, Micah Ford, Danny Gandar, Harrison Griffith, Jullien Jimenez, Jackson Jones, Preston Knott, Cort MacDonald, Brady Moore, Joe Robinson and Preston Workman.

The All Stars were coached by Paul Coronado, Dan Gandar and Trey Ford.

Premier soccer

Registration ends Monday for participation in the Premier Invitational League through the Arlington Texas Soccer Association 2013/2014 fall and spring leagues.

League fees are $600, and the season begins Aug. 24.

City fall leagues

Registration begins soon for fall T-ball, coach-pitch baseball and outdoor soccer youth leagues.

The fee for each is $75, with registration running until Sept. 4. Play in each league begains Sept. 28.

The city will follow up with basketball, cheer and indoor soccer leagues later in the fall.

Optimist football

Optimist Club of Arlington will be registering for fall youth football leagues Saturdays through July and August.

Sign-ups will be 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays through Aug. 10 at the Optimist Hut in Senter Park, 310 E. 3rd St.
