I am writing in regard to our failing public school system — or at least that perception.

So many people only know such headlines as “Dallas school district does this” or “School professional arrested for that.”

Thousands of students are educated successfully in Texas each day. Do we hear about those students? Not usually. We hear the bad and the ugly, but rarely the good.

Most of society over age 5 has been in the public school system at some point in their lives.

Yes, there are bad apples. But amazing individuals soar to personal success.

Teachers are not the problem with education. School systems as a whole are not the problem, either. Yes, there are problems. There are also problems in the media, at airlines and in the government.

Schools are a vital part of our communities and our lives. Schools are not the enemy.
