FORT WORTH A man who drowned at Lake Worth Tuesday evening has been identified as Cesar Marquez-Gonzalez, officials said Thursday.

The body of the 27-year-old was recovered by a fire department dive team near Casino Beach Park at Lake Worth and his death was ruled an accident, according to a ruling by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. A hometown was not listed for him.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the lake shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a drowning.

Witnesses told firefighters that Marquez-Gonzalez was racing to a buoy a short distance away from the beach.

“He made it to the buoy and was headed back when he began to struggle,” fire Capt. Tom Crow said Wednesday. “He went under and never came up.”

It took the dive team less than an hour to find his body, Crow said.
