Rainwater is the new gold. Learn how to capture this precious resource and reuse it to water your plants. On July 24 the Water Utility Department is hosting a free Rain Barrel Building Workshop at the Water Treatment Plant, 707 Pleasant Ridge Court. Class times are 8-10 a.m., 10 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. This class is for Mansfield residents only.

A rain barrel collects water from your roof and stores it for when you need it most -- during periods of drought -- to water plants. It provides homeowners a consistent supply of clean, fresh water for outdoor use. Lawn and garden watering make up nearly 40 percent of total household water use during the summer, which is a costly expense. Rain barrels allow homeowners to collect rain water for free. Saving water not only helps protect the environment, it saves you money and decreases demand for treated tap water.

To register for the Rain Barrel Building Workshop, call (817) 477-2248 or e-mail your name, address and preferred class time to water@mansfield-tx.gov.
