Spain’s Beatriz Recari rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt to take a back-nine lead and then held off Paula Creamer to win the Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio, for her third LPGA Tour title. Recari’s final 5-under 66 gave put her at 17 under overall. Creamer (67) was 16 under.

Former TCU and Saginaw Boswell standout Angela Stanford (67) finished tied for fifth at 10 under — her third consecutive top-five finish. Jodi Ewart Shadoff (66) and 18-year-old Lexi Thompson (67) tied for third at 13 under.

Stanford heads into the Aug. 1-4 Women’s British Open and subsequent Solheim Cup on a recent roll, with a 64.83 stroke average in six of her past eight rounds.

Briefly

•  PGA Tour: Woody Austin won the Sanderson Farms Classic in Madison, Miss., for his fourth PGA Tour victory, beating Cameron Beckman and Daniel Summerhays with an 8-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff. Austin, 49, is the oldest Tour winner since Fred Funk won at 50 in 2007. Colleyville’s Chad Campbell (71) was four shots back, and Fort Worth’s Rory Sabbatini (72) seven back.

•  Celebrity: Former Boyd and Texas Tech standout Billy Joe Tolliver won the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, Nev., for the fourth time, beating fellow former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien with a par on the third hole of a playoff.
