Cats bats went quiet Friday night when Rio Grande Valley pitchers threw complete games in a doubleheader sweep at LaGrave Field.

The WhiteWings won the opener 5-2 and the second game 5-1.

Paul Montalbano hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning, leading Rio Grande Valley to victory over the Cats in the first game.

Trent Evins pitched a complete-game four-hitter for Rio Grande Valley.

In the nightcap, Brett Miller pitched a two-hitter and Montalbano knocked in two runs.

In the first game, the WhiteWings broke open a 1-1 game in the sixth with four runs, highlighted by Montalbano’s homer.

Fort Worth took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Ryan Miller drove in David Bergin with a fielder’s choice.

Kenta Nishii tied the game in the fourth inning for the WhiteWings by driving in Thomas Shull with a single.

Nishii drove in Kieran Bradford with a single in the sixth. A walk then set the stage for Montalbano’s three-run blast.

Miller had a run-scoring single in the seventh.
