Active rigs in the Barnett shale fell by five this week to 28, ending three consecutive weeks of higher activity, according to RigData. For the first time in more than a year, Tarrant County was the busiest, with six rigs, followed by Denton and Montague counties with five each.

Nationally, active rigs rose by 11 to 1,770, said Baker Hughes. Rigs seeking crude oil were up four, to 1,395, rigs seeking natural gas were up seven, to 369, and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at six.
