TCU’s Devonte Fields selected Big 12’s top defender

TCU defensive end Devonte Fields and Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk are the Big 12 preseason players of the year.

The preseason All-Big 12 teams were released Wednesday as selected by media members who cover the conference.

Fields was the Big 12 defensive player of the year last season as a freshman, when he had 10 sacks. Fields is suspended for the first two games this season for an unspecified violation of university and team policies.

Seastrunk, the former Oregon transfer who will be a junior, averaged 139 yards rushing over the last six games in 2012.

TCU promotions

TCU promoted longtime football director of operations Mike Sinquefield to associate director of athletics for administration and promoted football equipment manager Matt Lewis to director of operations.

Sinquefield has been at TCU for 19 years, starting as equipment manager before becoming director of football operations in 2000.His duties include oversight of the football program.

Lewis has been the football equipment manager for 10 years and was promoted to assistant athletic director in 2011.

O’Brien watch

TCU quarterback Casey Pachall has been named to the watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, presented to the nation’s top quarterback. He also appears on the Maxwell Award Watch List.
