By 19 feet, the Texas SkyScreamer at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington is the world’s tallest swing ride, according to Guinness World Records.

“The notion that everything is bigger in Texas certainly rings true now that the Texas SkyScreamer has officially been named the world’s tallest swing ride,” said Steve Martindale, Six Flags Over Texas park president.

Spokeswoman Sharon Parker said the park received word June 28 that the new ride overtook the previous record holder, Prater Turm, in Vienna. That ride, by the same builder, opened in 2010.

The Texas SkyScreamer stands 402 feet 10 inches, as verified by Brittain & Crawford Land Surveying and Topographic Mapping in Fort Worth, Six Flags said.

Decima Cooper, public relations director for Experience Arlington, and Warren Williams, engineer and surveyor with Graham Association in Arlington, witnessed the measuring, Six Flags said.

Riders on the Texas SkyScreamer travel at up to 35 mph. About 100,000 thrill-seekers have ridden it since it opened in May, the park said.

Six Flags Entertainment Corp. owns and operates 18 theme parks in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, with $1.1 billion in revenue.
