On July 8-11, Weatherford High School hosted the third session of their strength and conditioning camp at the Outback.

Running the camp is Coach Kip Holt, the new secondary and off-season conditioning coach for the Weatherford Roos football team.

The camp is divided into three sessions each morning. The first two sessions from 7-8:30 and 8-9:30 are for high school students and the last session from 9-10:30 is for junior high students.

Each session begins with an hour in the weight room and the last 30 minutes outside doing sprints, foot work drills and pilates.

“So far I have been pleased with the attendance and I am impressed by the kids’ efforts throughout the week,” Holt said. “In all of our drills, we want the kids to be fast and explosive athletes and mentally tough.

“With each group, we want to make sure the kids are learning the appropriate mechanics to weight lifting. If they learn correctly now, it will help make their own workouts beneficial and safe.”

Weatherford High School will have two more sessions on July 22-25 and July 29-Aug 1. Walk-ins are welcome. The sessions will continue to be from 7-8:30 and 8-9:30 for high school students and 9-10:30 for the junior high students.
