Sewing Camp for Youth

Texas AgriLife Extension Service will offer a Sewing Camp July 30-31 from 9 a.m. to noon. The camp will be held at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center located at 604 North Main Street in Weatherford.

The camp is for youth 8 through 18 and will include basic sewing skills. Participants will make a skirt and photo pillow. Participants will need to bring 2 yards of cotton fabric for the skirt, plus matching thread. Other supplies and fabric for the pillows will be provided. Participants will also need to bring a sewing machine (there will be a few available to use), scissors, pins, needles, seam rippers and other sewing supplies.

The cost for the two-day sewing camp is $20. Space is limited and the deadline to register is Friday, July 26.

Safe Sitter Course

Texas AgriLife Extension will offer a Safe Sitter course Monday, July 29, at the Parker County Agricultural Service Center in Weatherford from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11 to 16 how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The class teaches safe and nutrition child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies.

The cost of the program is $35 that will cover workbook and lunch. To register for Safe Sitter, call the Parker County Extension office at 817-598-6168.

Parent Classes

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer parenting classes Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6 and 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center. The classes will be $10 per person for the two-day class and will include lunch.

The parenting classes will use the curriculum Becoming A Love and Logic Parent by Jim Fay and Charles Fay. The curriculum will cover Raising Responsible Kids, The Love and Logic Formula, C Stands for Control, Ownership of the Problem, Thinking and Decision Making, Consequences. Also covered in the classes will be Keeping Children Healthy, Food Safety and Shopping Strategies for Healthy Eating.
