The Fort Worth Cats lost two opponents but apparently no playing dates as United League Baseball was trimmed to four teams.

The league shut down the Alexandria Aces for the final five weeks of the season Thursday, but plans to bring the team back in 2014, league CEO John Bryant told The Town Talk of Alexandria (La.).

The Aces hope to have a refurbished stadium next year.

The McAllen Thunder, a traveling team, will also discontinue play to leave four teams in the league.

The Cats’ schedule has a single-game series listed against McAllen at 10:30 a.m. July 24.

Fort Worth will play Edinburg, Rio Grande Valley and San Angelo over the final 32 games to fill out a 90-game season that ends Aug. 14. The Cats have 20 home games remaining, including a doubleheader on July 21.

The playoffs will match the top two teams in a best-of-three series Aug. 15-17.

San Angelo tops Cats

San Angelo scored a run in the eighth inning to beat the visiting Cats 5-4 on Friday night.

Fort Worth took a 3-0 lead in the third on four singles and two walks.

David Bergin and Chris Ellison had run-scoring hits.

The Colts took a 4-3 lead with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by Jordan Marks’ two-run double.

The Cats tied it in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Cameron Monger.
