A lunchtime armed robbery of a bookstore near the University of Texas at Arlington campus prompted the university to alert students to take immediate cover.

The campus, however, was not placed in lockdown and students were later told via Twitter that the area had been searched and the suspect was not believed to be on campus. They were still cautioned, however, to stay clear of the area and exercise caution.

Tiara Richard, an Arlington police spokeswoman, said the robbery occurred about noon at a bookstore in the 600 block of Doug Russell Road. A man, armed with a gun, demanded money from a clerk, then fled on foot headed south/southeast.

She said no shots were fired, nor injuries reported in the robbery. The investigation is continuing, she said.
