The Texas Wild got its Mylan World TeamTennis season off to a tough start late Sunday in Sacramento, Calif., falling to the Capitals 22-17 in overtime.

The tough night began even before the match started when Eugenie Bouchard’s flight through San Francisco was delayed due to lingering effects of the crash of an Asiana Airlines flight on Saturday.

Bouchard’s flight landed in Sacramento two hours before the scheduled start of Sunday’s match and she went directly from the flight to the courts to play.

Texas lost the first four of five matches, including Bouchard’s 5-2 loss to two-time NCAA singles champion Nicole Gibbs.

Texas’ only victory came in men’s singles where Alex Bogomolov Jr. defeated Mardy Fish, a late addition to the Capitals lineup, 5-1. but the match was already decided by that point.

Fish and Southlake resident Mark Knowles defeated Bogomolov and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, 5-4 in a tiebreaker. Knowles teamed with Megan Moulton-Levy to beat Qureshi and Darija Jurak in mixed doubles, 5-2.

The Wild played at the Orange County Breakers late Monday night.
