HASLET By sometime in September, Amazon.com should have its fulfillment center up and running on Westport Parkway.

For now, road construction near the site in the Alliance corridor continues and should be completed before summer’s end, authorities said.

Roadway improvements are in progress on Westport between Intermodal Parkway and Farm Road 156. The project is extending the concrete roadway from Michael’s Distribution Center to the west, ending just east of the Henrietta Creek Bridge.

The eastbound lane of that new section will not open until about July 15 because of delays caused by weather and field conditions. The westbound portion, which includes a concrete lane and turn lane, is expect to be finished sometime in August.

Until the lanes open, traffic is being detoured through Intermodal Parkway. Westport isn’t the only road work affecting motorists in Haslet.

John Day Road south of Navidad Way to Keller Haslet Road at Second and Main streets have been closed since-mid June and are expected to re-open after four months of closure.

“It’s a sign of progress and unfortunately things are slow right now,” Mayor Bob Golden said. “It mirrors Fort Worth and really much of the Metroplex right now in that there’s a lot of construction cones around and a lot of traffic being re-routed.”
