Author Mike Lawson has put his protagonist, D.C. fixer Joe DeMarco, in a number of sticky situations, but House Odds, the eighth book in this series, has him embroiled in a political scandal. And this time it really hits close to home.

DeMarco’s boss is U.S. Rep. Fitzpatrick Mahoney, D-Mass., the former speaker of the House and current House minority leader. Mahoney’s daughter, Molly, has been arrested for insider trading. She’s facing federal charges and an SEC investigation. But there’s more: Molly has a gambling problem and gangsters are hunting her down. Corrupt politicians also are in the mix.

DeMarco’s task? He has to clear Molly’s name — and keep Mahoney out of this mess. All in a day’s work for the guy who always has the congressman’s back.
