Knowing that it’s hard to find volunteers to work at city parks on July 4, a local group is offering financial incentive to charities.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful, a nonprofit city partner, will make a contribution to any 501(c)3 group that volunteers at the city’s Rockledge or Meadowmere parks on July 4.

Executive director Mary Jo Tellin said it’s hard to find volunteers on the Fourth of July.

“It’s a national holiday and folks just take the day off,” she said. “We want enough volunteers to provide the ultimate in guest service when people go to these parks.”

A donation of $8 per hour will be contributed to the charity. The shifts are from 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 2-5 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.

Volunteers will greet guests and direct traffic and will receive drinks, lunch and free entry into the park.

Tellin said Rockledge was earmarked because it gets thousands of visitors that day, partly because it offers the best views of the fireworks that evening.

Meadowmere is a popular destination with a swim beach, kayaking, horseshoes and paddle boarding.
