A body was found beneath a tarp Monday evening in the middle of a quiet street in northwest Saginaw, and police were looking for a red pickup that was seen in the area.

Reports that the body may be a female child could not be confirmed by police late Monday.

“I’ve heard that from witnesses,” said officer Damon Ing, a police spokesman, “but we haven’t actually confirmed that yet.

“We’re just starting the investigation.”

A 911 call was made about 7:30 p.m. reporting a body beneath a tarp “in the middle of the road” in a residential area near the intersection of Roundrock Drive and Cindy Lane, Ing said.

The neighborhood is northeast of the intersection of Old Decatur Road and West McLeroy Boulevard. Willow Creek Park is about a block east of the area.

“This is a very quiet neighborhood,” Ing said.

Witnesses reported seeing a red pickup about the same time the body was found, Ing said.

He did not know the make, model or year of the truck, but a witness said the back right panel may have been marked with what appeared to be a splatter of green paint.

The FBI and Texas Rangers have been asked to help investigate, which is usual procedure in major crimes, Ing said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saginaw police at 817-232-0311.
